🎥Why I Ride: From Ground Zero to the Starting Line”
One week to go!!!
What drives a person to train for nearly 200 miles on a bike in the middle of a New England summer?
For me, it’s not just about the challenge (although I love me a good challenge!). It’s about survival. Resilience. And purpose.
I recently had the honor of sharing my story with the incomparable Lisa Hughes on WBZ/CBS: a journey that begins in the shadow of the Twin Towers on 9/11, winds through two cancer diagnoses, and now pushes me toward a hopeful new milestone—riding my first Pan-Mass Challenge for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute…giving back to the people who saved my life, twice.
It’s surreal to see this story condensed into a few minutes of footage, and powerful too. Because outlasting the grief and trauma is something much stronger: gratitude. For the doctors and nurses who treated me. For the family and friends who stood by and cared for me. And for the chance to give back through the PMC—an event that funds lifesaving cancer research and care.
This year, I ride not just for myself, but for every survivor, patient, caregiver, and soul we've lost. I ride for a future where fewer people have to hear the words “you have cancer.” And I ride because I can.
Thank you Lisa and team at WBZ/CBS Boston for helping amplify this story—and to everyone who’s supported my ride so far. There’s still time to help me meet (or beat!) my fundraising goal.
